This year, we are marking International Women’s Day with two events; one in Cumbria and one in Lancashire. Both events will bring together businesswomen to network, browse exhibitor stands and listen to business speakers. Join us for the morning or come for the full day and join us for a delicious lunch, goody bags and more!
The Origins of International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is an important date in the calendar for women’s rights. It originated in America after the Socialist Party held its first Women’s Day in New York, on 28 February 1909. Nowadays, this annual event is commemorated on 8 March across the world, although other IWD events are marked around this date.
2019 International Women’s Day Theme
Each year, a theme is chosen to highlight issues that women face and looks at ways to address ways to improve the rights of women. The theme for 2019 is #BalanceforBetter. In an ideal world, we wouldn’t need to talk about gender-imbalance. However, women face problems that are gender specific. Although a number of companies, organisations and governments acknowledge difficulties that affect women, there is a long way to go to ensure that women have the same rights as men.
