The Art of Brain Dumping by Pocket Watch Assistant

What the…is a brain dump?  It’s a way of offloading all of the thoughts in your mind onto paper!

Perhaps your mind feels cluttered, and you can’t seem to find a way to the top?  Imagine trying to switch off when your mind is running around a theme park in all directions.

Sit down with a brew, cake, sweets, chocolate – whatever else you fancy…

🖊It is time to Brain Dump!

📌Write down a bullet point list of everything you have rolling around in your mind – things you need to do, thoughts or worries (this can involve both personal and business tasks).

📌Next categorise them, such as personal, business, errands, household to name just a few (break it all down).

📌Prioritise the most urgent, down to the “this can wait until next month”.

📌Take a moment to enjoy your brew, grab some fresh air before revisiting, did you remember anything?

📌Spread this load over the final days of the month and then spread next month’s load throughout the weeks of next month.  I use a variety of tools to keep my to-do list in check – diary, pen and paper, alongside my Trello online task manager.

Why does a brain dump help straighten up the mind?  They help capture your scattiness, that’s right the scattiness in your brain will come out in the form of pen and paper, maybe you won’t even realise until you see it on paper?  Visually seeing something in front of you will enable you to work through a methodical and realistic process.  I mean who really can do a hundred jobs, be here there and everywhere when you actually only have a couple of hours to do it?

Carrying out a regular brain dump, either once a week or monthly will really assist you to stay in control and avoid a fuzzy mind.

It is worth keeping an eye on any of those tasks that have come up, perhaps they could be delegated and outsourced in the future.
