Hello fellow Pink Lady,
Please bear with me this is my first blog post. I have no idea how this works, but I am giving it a go.
Well anyway – I’m Nathalie, and I’m a member of the Pink Link ‘Preston’ group. Nice to (virtually) meet you. Last Friday, I did my first Peer Presentation before the Preston group, and gave them an insight into my firm’s practice. Perhaps I should have mentioned earlier – I am a trainee Solicitor at AST Hampsons. We are based in Rochdale and Bury.
AST Hampsons is a multi-practice law firm and offer services for you and your business.; from wills and probate, to conveyancing, purchasing of businesses and of course family law! Also, our firm first established over 150 years ago, and has passed through the generations of the Taylor family. The firm is run presently by Mr Peter Taylor, and his son, James Taylor.
Back to the point of the blog and the main topic I discussed in my presentation – financial settlement upon divorce. The chances are you know someone who has been through a divorce, or is going through a divorce. Do you know if that individual reached a financial agreement with their ex-spouse? Possibly not, because that is rather confidential. However, I cannot stress the importance of having a Financial Consent Order which reflects the agreement between you and your former-spouse regarding the division of your matrimonial assets. The Order itself is a legally binding document, which dismisses yours and your ex-spouses financial claims against each other. The divorce process alone does not abolish these claims.
Put it this way, should you come into some inheritance in the future, and your ex-spouse finds out, he or she is entitled to make a claim against the inheritance. Want to risk it? Of course you don’t.
If you or someone you know is currently going through a divorce – I offer a free 30 minute consultation. So please, get in touch! My email address is nspeakman@asthamspons.co.uk or 0161 763 1000.
